What is Voice over IP?
Voice over IP is short for Voice over Internet Protocol and is better known as VoIP.

Voice over IP refers to the transmission of voice traffic over internet-based networks instead of the traditional PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) telephone networks. The Internet Protocol (IP) was originally designed for data networking and following its success, the protocol has been adapted to voice networking by packetizing the information and transmitting it as IP data packets.

VoIP is now available on many smartphones, personal computers and on internet access devices such as tablets.

Can I keep my phone number and use VoIP?
In most cases, you can keep your existing phone number and transfer it to ME Systems, allowing you to start receiving all your calls via VoIP. Porting depends on whether you use a geographic (i.e. 012, 011, 031, etc) or a non-geographic (i.e. 087) number.

We can port geographic numbers to the ME Systems network.

Is there any downtime with VoIP?
Because VoIP is a “virtual” solution there is no dependency on physical lines. We also have several options to reduce downtime, like installing additional power, internet lines and more.
Do I still have to pay other Telecoms accounts after moving to ME Systems?
ME Systems port the number on their system. It takes more or less 30-60 days for transfer. After the process is finalised, you don’t have to pay any other telecoms account.
What is the line quality of VoIP vs. Traditional networks?
The standard copperwire Telecoms line quality, according to ICASA rating is 3.2. VOIP’s rating is normally 3.6 mos score. ME Systems ICASA rating has a 4.2 mos score.
